Raptors!

Have you heard? Dinter Nursery has gone to the birds and the bees!!

We have partnered with the Raptors Center, 1877 Herd Road in Duncan to build awareness of these two often misunderstood and often overlooked creatures. Did you know that both birds and bees are environmental indicators? This means they help naturalists determine the overall health of our ecosystems.

To see pictures of raptors and where they are located in Duncan, visit The Raptors

On June 24 and 25, and from July 1 to 3, visit The Raptors Center at 1877 Herd Road in Duncan for their Honey Bee Takeover. View the Dinter Nursery bee garden display and enter to win a gift certificate from Dinter Nursery, or enter the raffle for a starter beehive kit valued at over $300!

And, with any purchase at Dinter Nursery from June 24 to July 3, you can enter a draw to win one of two Family of Four General Admission Passes to The Raptors! Draw will be made on July 3 and the winners will be announced on Facebook.

It's not too late to plant annuals!!

Are you worried that it's too late to plant veggies and bedding plants? Well, worry no more because annuals can be planted into early summer!

We carry a good selection of annuals into July. The warm weather will bring them into colour quickly plus we carry a selection of larger annuals for instant colour to fill gaps in the garden. Vegetable transplants are always available to fill the spaces created by the harvest of early season crops. Heat loving plants such as tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, peppers, melons, and squash should be in the ground by now. For those planning ahead, we will be offering fall and winter harvest vegetables as transplants about mid-July.

There is no calendar date for planting annuals. It is more about weather and temperature than anything else. Growth to maturity for vegetables is typically 60 to 90 days but it is also equally dependent on soil and air temperature. As temperatures warm up, plants will be able to quickly catch up on where they "should" be after this season's slow start.

So don't worry that it's too late to get your annuals into the ground. There is still plenty of time in the season for your garden to provide you with a healthy and abundant harvest, as well as lots of beautiful colour.

Vegetable starts grown in our own greenhouses.
